Cattle Classes
The Cattle lines have been a feature of every Alton Show since 1840 when the first show was held on The Butts on the western side of the town.
Much
has changed in the intervening years but the show still offers a challenge to
livestock farmers to display a selection of the high quality stock reared in
the local area in competition.
Today, when many people have little contact with the working countryside, Alton Show also provides a unique opportunity for producers and consumers to meet and talk together.
The stock farmers of the future can test their skills in the calf class . Open to any breed but animals must have been born after November 1st 2007 and the handlers must be 16yrs old or younger.
This class is judged by the President of the Show who not only has to select the best calf but also awards the challenge cup for the best exhibitor.

T
Thanks
to generous sponsorship from Sheen & Stickland and Mr N. Baird all the cattle
pens are enclosed in a tented area close to the judging rings.
Entries for all classes close on 9th of June 2008, because of penning
arrangements late entries are not accepted in the Cattle classes.
